The municipality of Montes Claros is the regional pole in the northern portion of Minas Gerais. The Initiatives for the Enhancement of the Downtown Area focus on relevant aspects of the urban center such as the qualification of the sidewalks, the implementation of bike tracks, the creation of street furniture aiming at strengthening the downtown’s identity, the cleaning-up of the constructions facades and advertisement standardization, as well as proposals for the Historic District. The strategic projects comprehend proposals for the requalification of the Railway Depots, turning it into a Concert Hall, and of the Southern Market, changing it to become the Darcy Ribeiro Cultural Center. The System of Green Areas encompasses proposals for the preservation of the rivers through parks along the riparian areas, the restructuring of the Milton Prates Municipal Park and Guimarães Rosa Park, in addition to the creation of the Parque da Cidade (City Park).
